State-of-the-art DBaaS Offering
MODS Highend platform offers the very best Oracle infrastructure:
- Database platform based on the Oracle Exadata Database Machines
- Backup solution based on the Oracle Zero Data Loss Appliances (ZDLRA)
The MODS Highend solution relies on:
- the Oracle Multitenant architecture
- the Oracle VM virtualization solution within the Exadata Database Machines
Both these technologies offer flexibility, scalability and a great potential for consolidation.
Security of the customers' databases (CDB and PDB) and the platform is ensured via the implementation of PDB isolation and hardening techniques and through a set of security practices.
Order of a Container Database (CDB)
Whilst ordering a Container Database (CDB), the customer has the choices between 2 plans to suit different needs in terms of High Availability architecture:
- ADVANCED Plan
- STANDARD Plan
Database ADVANCED Plan
With the 'ADVANCED' plan, the customer gets a complete 'Maximum Availability Architecture' (MAA) comprising of RAC Container Database (CDB) running on an Exadata Database Machine, as follows:
- All Exadata components are redundant
- ASM Diskgroups DATA and RECO are configured in HIGH REDUNDANCY, i.e. 3 failure groups per diskgroup
- The Container Database is a 2-node RAC database
- Data Guard configuration completes the MAA architecture
- in MAXIMUM AVAILABILITY mode (synchronous redo log transport)
- or MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE mode (asynchronous redo log transport)
Database Backup solution for the ADVANCED Plan
For the 'ADVANCED' plan database, the backup architecture is as follows:
- Backup of the Primary database done on a ZDLRA on the primary site
- Backup of the Standby database done on a ZDLRA on the standby site
Database STANDARD Plan
With the 'STANDARD' plan, the customer gets a RAC Container Database (CDB) running on an Exadata Database Machine, as follows:
- All Exadata components are redundant
- ASM Diskgroups DATA and RECO are configured in HIGH REDUNDANCY, i.e. 3 failure groups per diskgroup
- The Container Database is a 2-node RAC database
Database Backup solution for the STANDARD Plan
For the 'STANDARD' plan database, if the customer opts for a backup of the database, the backup architecture is as follows:
Backups on the Oracle Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliances ensure:
- Zero-Data Loss via Real-time Redo Transport
- Storage optimisation and recovery optimisation with:
- Incremental-Forever Backup strategy
- Virtual Full Backups
- End-to-End Data Validation
- Offload of the backup operations on the ZDLRA machines
- Backup safety and availability via the optimized eplication process
Oracle Releases and Patching
MODS Highend is available for Oracle RDBMS release 12cR2 and 19c. Oracle Release Updates are applied twice a year.
Monitoring
The MODS platform (Exadata, OVM, GuestOS, CDB, PDB and DataGuard) is monitored by Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control.
To simplify the management of the targets every target type has its specific metric template grouped by target role (i.e. database role). This provides a standardized and consistent monitoring across the entire platform.
OEMaaS
A dedicated platform of Oracle Enterprise Manager is proposed as a service to the customer, for monitoring and administration of their databases.
