Backup/Restore
Backups are differentiated between image-based- and agent-based backups. For Swisscom Windows VMs we offer only image-based backups.
Image-based Backup
The Swisscom Windows VMs are protected with image-based backup. This backup process for VMs creates a copy of the Operating System (OS) and all data and drives associated with the VM. The default backup policy is set to 30 days. The following backup policies can be applied:
Backup Schedule | Retention Period |
---|---|
Daily | 7 days |
Daily | 14 days |
Daily | 30 days |
Daily | 90 days |
Weekly | 365 days |
To change the backup policy use the day-2 operation Change Backup Policy. Backups taken with the older policy will remain available until their retention period expires.
After a Swisscom Windows VM has been backed up at least once, it is considered protected. The image-based backup feature provides the ability to restore a complete Swisscom Windows VM or to recover individual files and folders.
The restore can be done by Swisscom upon service request ticket from customer. Please set the VM into Temp Admin state and provide VM name and hostname in the ESC Service Request ticket.
Agent-based Backup
The agent-based backup feature is not available for Swisscom Windows VMs.
