Service Structure

The File Service Premium service is structured as follows:

In order to deploy a child element (e.g. Share) the parent element (e.g. Container) needs to be ordered first.

File Service Premium

You can order a File Service Premium instance through the Enterprise Service Cloud Catalog.

A File Service Premium instance can consist of any amount of NFS, SMB or iSCSI Container as well as iSCSI Initiator Groups. The container in turn can consist of any amount of SMB or NFS Shares or iSCSI LUNs, while the iSCSI Initiator Groups can consist of any amount of iSCSI Initiators.

Can't find File Service Premium?

If you can't find "File Service Premium" in the catalog, File Services might not be enabled in your Business Group or you might not have the appropriate entitlements. Please contact your tenant administrator to enable it for you.

Container

A File Service Premium instance can consist of any amount of NFS, SMB or iSCSI Container. You can create 1 to n containers per instantiated file service. A container has the following characteristics:

  • Min. purchase quantity: 512 GiB
  • Service classes: Standard, Advanced
    Service classDescription
    Standardstorage just on one datacenter
    Advancedmirrored in two datacenters
  • Performance classes: Eco, Fast, Ultra Fast
Performance classPerformance per container per TiBLimit
EcoUp to 1000 IOPS per TiB *Up to 50 MB/s per TiB *
FastUp to 4000 IOPS per TiB *Up to 200 MB/s per TiB *
Ultra FastUp to 8000 IOPS per TiB *Up to 400 MB/s per TiB *
    * Performance metrics scales up to max. 10 TiB

Be aware!

  • Containers can only contain Shares/LUNs from the same protocol (e.g. NFS containers -> NFS shares). Mixed containers are not possible.
  • A container/share of one protocol cannot be converted to a container/share of another protocol (e.g. iSCSI container -> NFS container). The data would need to be moved manually.

Share/LUN

A container consists of any amount of SMB or NFS Shares or iSCSI LUNs respectively. You can create 1 to n shares/LUNs per instantiated container. A share/LUB has the following characteristics:

  • Fix allocated storage per share (configured by customer)
    • Maximum storage per container cannot exceed 80 TiB. To use more storage, you need to provide a new container.
    • The maximum storage includes possible backup of your container. So if you have backup enabled, you can have a maximum of 80 TiB of shares in one container.
  • Access control list

iSCSI Initiator Group

An File Service Premium, in addition to containers, can contain any amount of iSCSI Initiator Groups.

iSCSI Initiator

An iSCSI Initiator Group consists of any amount of iSCSI Initiators.
